Dirt Bikes Review: the AMA and the WMA

The American Motorcyclists Association – (AMA) is a professional motorcycle racing organization controlled by veteran motorcycle racer Roger Edmondson and a group of racing business professionals in charge of operating the Daytona Motorsports group. They took over the operation of motorsports racing from the AMA. Now the AMA is run by veteran racer David Atlas, NASCAR executive – Tom Bledsoe, and Daytona Beach attorney – Chris Harris. Their first priority is the safety of all dirt bike racers and also the fans. Competition being their second concern, the AMA - by implementing many of the rule changes for 2010 that are designed to improve the quality of racing for competitors as well as the fans – have created a racing organization that will continue to move this form of racing to the new level now and into the future. This form of racing is the most intense, exciting and unpredictable form of motorsports racing in the world. AMA racing event categories consists of the following: Road Racing, Flat Track, Motocross, Supermoto, ATV, and the Hill Climb event. Daytona Beach, Florida and Daytona National Speedway has been host to many landmark racing events in motorcycle racing. Starting with the first race on the sands of Daytona Beach in the 1930’s to the classic Daytona 200 road races at the speedway, have been historically linked for many years. Associated with the AMA is the WMA – Women’s Motocross Association, which is naturally the professional racing association for women. The WMA has an American Motorcyclist Association – (AMA) charter and the AMA sanctions all WMA events. The WMA – founded in 2004 – is committed to the promotion of women’s racing by providing the highest quality women’s motocross events and creating opportunities for women throughout the sport. The founder and president of the WMA is Miki Keller who is an active motocross rider. From January 2000 to January 2004 she was the president for the U.S. Women’s motorcycle League. The Women’s Motocross Association owns and operates the women’s professional motocross series, known as the AMA/WMA Women’s National Motocross Championship. This is the world’s largest women’s motocross event and also promotes women’s amateur-class racing through the WMA membership organization at its events. These two organizations, the AMA and the WMA attract scores of new young boys and girls as fans and potential competitors to its many venues across the United States. With their different variety of events and the young age of the riders, the WMA and the AMA delivers a message of fun, companionship, and sanctioned competition, not to mention the opportunity to earn a nice living, to all young dirt bike riders in the United States and the world.
